Where each brand is strongest
Perkins, from the United Kingdom, dominates the Saudi standby market from 10 to about 700 kVA. The 400-series (10–30 kVA), 1100-series (50–250 kVA) and 2000-series (400–700 kVA) engines are in thousands of buildings across the Kingdom, and that installed base is the point: spare parts and trained technicians are available in every major city, and most consultants have approved Perkins-powered sets many times before.
Cummins, from the United States, is the stronger name from about 500 kVA upward, and the default for critical facilities. The QSX15, KTA19, KTA38, KTA50 and QSK60 platforms cover 500 to 2,500 kVA per set, parallel cleanly for multi-megawatt plants, and carry a global support network that data-centre and hospital operators trust.
Price, fuel and service
At the same kVA in the 100–500 kVA band, Perkins-powered sets are usually priced a little below Cummins-powered sets and are slightly lighter; above 700 kVA the gap narrows and Cummins often wins on cost per kVA. Fuel consumption at 75 % load is close between the two — the alternator, load profile and derating matter more than the badge.
Service intervals are similar (typically 250–500 hours for oil and filters depending on the model). The practical difference in Saudi Arabia is proximity: Perkins parts for the common sizes are stocked more widely in secondary cities, while Cummins support for the large platforms is concentrated in Jeddah, Riyadh and the Eastern Province, where the large plants are.
Which to specify, by application
Villas, clinics, shops and telecom sites (10–60 kVA): Perkins 400-series, or Kubota if noise and fuel economy matter most. Commercial buildings, schools, small factories and construction sites (100–500 kVA): Perkins 1100 and 2000 series unless the client or consultant standardises on Cummins. Hospitals, towers, data centres and industrial plants (500–2,500 kVA): Cummins KTA and QSK, or Perkins 4000-series where the consultant prefers it.

The honest answer
Choose Perkins when service coverage everywhere in the Kingdom and consultant familiarity matter most, especially under 700 kVA. Choose Cummins when the set is large, critical or part of a paralleled plant. Either way, buy the set with the OEM engine serial, the alternator and controller brands named, and the datasheet at 60 Hz — the badge is worth nothing without the paperwork.
