Safety Supplies

How to choose safety supplies and PPE

• ✓Start from the site risk assessment: list the hazards (falling objects, chemicals, noise, dust, heat, work at height) and choose PPE for each, rather than buying a generic kit.
• ✓For safety gloves, read the EN 388 marking: the numbers rate abrasion, cut, tear and puncture resistance, so match a higher cut rating to sheet metal or glass handling and a softer, more dexterous glove to assembly work.
• ✓For safety shoes, the EN ISO 20345 class tells you the protection level: S1 adds antistatic and energy-absorbing heels to the toe cap, while S3 adds water resistance and a penetration-resistant midsole for rough construction sites.
• ✓For helmets, check the suspension type (4- or 6-point ratchet), size adjustment range and whether you need a chin strap or accessories such as visors and ear muffs that clip on.
• ✓For respiratory protection, match the filter to the hazard: particulate masks (FFP2/FFP3 or N95 classes) for dust, and cartridge respirators for gas, vapour or paint fumes.
• ✓Consider Saudi climate and comfort: breathable workwear, lightweight helmets and ventilated footwear improve compliance on outdoor sites, and hi-vis items should be planned for anyone near traffic or moving equipment.
